Bill McCallie and His Platinum Me-109

Builder and Pilot: Bill McCallie of Tampa, FL.

Platinum ME-109 (K)

    Specs:
  • Weight: 46 lbs.
  • Power: DA-85
  • Radio: JR
  • Retracts: Sierra
  • Wheels: Glennis

Notes: The 109 only took 1 lb. in the nose to balance the plane. It flies like a pattern ship, takes off with little to no rudder as long as you come up slowly on the throttle. Bill made the tail wheel retractable and used a small spring steel wire to close and open the tail wheel doors. Leverage is the answer... Look inside the tail wheel bay and you will see a yellow tube. That is nyrod holding a braided cable that is used for the hinge.
